Are there any charges associated with Marketplace?

There is no charge for listing a domain for sale, using the research tools or searching for registration and aftermarket names. There is a one-time $1 charge that will apply if you decide to make an offer on a name. In addition, Buyers who successfully negotiate a purchase will have a 15% commission added to the purchase price. All sales that occur on Marketplace will also need to use the Moniker Escrow Services.

Why are domain stats important when buying and selling a domain?

There are a number of factor that may be important when considering a domain purchase. Depending on whether your goals are investment related or marketing driven, you may evaluate the criteria very differently. Moniker has integrated a number of statistics either available through Moniker's TrafficClub product or a qualified third party into Marketplace. These numbers are updated monthly.

  • Unique Users per month: This is the number of individual users who visit the site monthly. Statistics listed represent the number for the most recent full month.
  • Revenue last month: This is the amount of monthly revenue generated on a parked site by pay-per-click advertisements and other affiliate arrangements. Please note: This does not represent the business generated by fully-developed websites. Statistics listed represent the number for the most recent full month.

How do negotiations work?

Once a Buyer submits an offer, that offer will appear in the Seller's Moniker.com Account as a submitted offer. We will send an email to the Seller alerting him or her to the offer as well.

The Seller will then have the following options:

  • Accept the offer - Once the Seller indicates on Marketplace that they are accepting the offer, a message will show up in the Buyer's Moniker Account. In addition, an e-mail will be sent to Buyer, alerting them to the accepted offer. The Buyer is then contractually obliged to complete the sale and arrange for payment. The Buyer will have seven days to start the closing process.
  • Make a counteroffer - The Seller may also indicate a counteroffer on the Marketplace platform. This will generate an e-mail to the Buyer indicating there is a counter-offer and directing the Buyer to view his or her Moniker Account.
  • Reject the offer - The Seller may also indicate that he or she rejects the offer outright. This will also post a message to the Buyers Moniker Account and generate an e-mail to the Buyer.
  • No activity - The Seller may not respond to the offer at all. Offers are valid for 7 days. If there is no response by the Seller after seven days the offer will lapse. Buyers may choose to submit a new offer at that time.

Although e-mails will be sent at certain points in the negotiation and transaction process, we recommend that Buyers and Sellers check their Moniker Marketplace accounts frequently for updates on their latest transaction activity.

Once an offer has been accepted, what happens next?

Once the Buyer and Seller have agreed on a price, both parties will enter the closing phase of the transaction. At this point, Moniker will place the domain and any payments in escrow until settlement from both sides is completed and verified.

Depending on whether the domain is registered with Moniker, and the type of payment the Buyer is using, this may take a few days for the transaction to be completed. Once both Buyer and Seller have honored their obligations, Moniker will transfer the assets accordingly. Buyers and Sellers have 30 days to complete the transaction and make their arrangements for payment or domain transfer.

How do the transfers work?

If the domain is already with Moniker, the transfer will happen automatically once the agreement on price has been reached.

If the Domain is not registered at Moniker, then if you are the Seller, you will need to make sure your domain records at your registrar are unlocked and your domain is ready to transfer. Moniker will also send you a Form of Authorization verification letter required for legal transfer.

What happens if the Buyer does not make the payment?

If the Buyer doesn't make a payment on the domain within seven (7) days, we will email a reminder notice every three days until payment has been made. If the Buyer after 30 days has not made a payment we will terminate the transaction. Please review the Marketplace Use Agreement.

What happens if the Seller does not transfer the domain?

Moniker Marketplace will wait seven days to receive a domain. If after seven days the Seller has still not transferred the domain, we will send a reminder email every 7 days. We will terminate the transaction after 30 days, if the Seller has not made the transfer. The Buyer's account will be credited the payment, including the associated transaction fees.
